It was configured with fixed landing gear and powered by a 160 hp Lycoming O-320, giving it the designation MJ-5-H1. Up front, it sported a Pacesetter 200 propeller, and on the scales, the numbers told a clear story: 465 kg empty and 720 kg at max weight. Performance-wise, at 2700 rpm, the Sirocco could hit 155 mph (250 km/h), with a comfortable cruise at 65% power around 130 mph (210 km/h). A curious touch: the cowling came from a Thorp T-18, paired with a 4-inch (10 cm) propeller extension, a creative adaptation typical of homebuilders. For fuel, the Sirocco carried 41 liters in the fuselage, plus 34 liters in each wing, giving it solid range for cross-country flying. Sadly, the aircraft’s story took a turn on April 28, 2001, when it was damaged during a botched landing at Great Barrington, Massachusetts. The pilot, an airline captain with only 26 hours on type, came in too fast and too long, struggling with turbulent conditions. The damaged airframe later resurfaced at the famous Aeromart flea market during Oshkosh in August 2002, a silent witness to its past adventures and mishaps. Has anyone taken on the challenge of restoring this unique machine?
