MJ-2 #35 N3548

Construction:
1975
Moteur / Engine : Continental C90 90 cv / hp - Voltige / Aerobatic

The MJ-2 Tempete N3548 was built by Henry J. Gratton at Largo, Florida. The maiden flight was march 1972 with a Continental C90 95hp engine.

His grandaughter wright us in 2005: He lived and built this plane in Windsor Locks, Connecticut. The roads and Hartford international Airport (then known as Bradley Field) had to be temporarily closed so he could taxi it to the runway and move it to his local small airport. Of the airport. I knew this plane as the Jurca Tempete all my life as he built it in his cellar while I was 4-6 yrs old.The pic of it in white with blue and red trim with the checker board was the way it looked originally.Once he flew the necessary hours he painted it camouflage .the engine is 110hp and he altered the plans by covering the wings with plywood with the grain set at 45deg from the airframe and wing centerlines. Of he also re-enforced the firewall for the engine's increased power. He told me the original design called for fabric covered wings and no more than 65hp . The picture you have of him flying in the cockpit was taken for a local newspaper article in the Windsor Journal. It was also the cover shot for the day of publication.

Henry Gratton passed away suddendly August 23rd, 2006 and his grandson Roy now own the plane.
